Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the frequency of functional intestinal symptoms in patients with ulcerative colitis in remission stage and its correlation with depression, anxiety and quality of life.

Methods

A total of 326 patients with ulcerative colitis in remission stage from May 2016 to March 2020 were selected, and 20 patients without functional intestinal symptoms were selected as the control group.General information questionnaire, hospital anxiety and depression scale, fecal incontinence score scale, fecal incontinence quality of life score system and constipation patients quality of life questionnaire were used to investigate the patients.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between functional intestinal symptoms and depression, anxiety and quality of life.

Results

A total of 300 valid questionnaires were collected, 8% of the patients had symptoms of fecal incontinence, and 10% of the patients had constipation. The scores of anxiety and depression in patients with functional intestinal symptoms were significantly higher than those in the control group(all P<0.05). The quality of life of patients with functional intestinal symptoms was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the scores of fecal incontinence and constipation were positively correlated with the scores of anxiety and depression(P<0.01). There was a significant negative correlation between fecal incontinence score and quality of life score(r=-0.863, P<0.01), and a significant positive correlation between constipation score and quality of life score(r=0.881, P<0.01).

Conclusion

Patients with remission UC still have functional intestinal symptoms, and functional intestinal symptoms increase the negative emotions of patients and affect the quality of life of patients.
